The Day After Tommorow

In The Day After Tomorrow mise en scene is a key feature it is used throughout the film in one part when we see the Hollywood sign and then we see a windy tornado destroy and crush it they use this effect because we know the Hollywood sign is very big and a iconic landmark in America so they use this effect to show that the tornado is quick, massive and destructive this makes the audience feel scared and worried for the characters.

Mise en scene is also used when the three boys go onto the abandoned and crashed ship when they get onto the ship it is very dark and there is not much noise they use this to create suspense and tension this makes the audience think what is on the ship is there something dangerous also when the audience cant see much as the lighting is dim so the audience concentrate more on the sound feature so the audience themselves are on the edge and feeling tense.

The sound feature is also used when everyone is in the library and a loud noise which almost sounds like a whale is heard but we as the audience can not yet see the thing that has made this magnificent loud noise the director has used this to make the audience feel concerned and worried for the characters as we know this is a really bad time for humanity so we are not sure what could be making this noise as very bad things are happening so something worse could happen so us as the audience are concerned and feel sympathetic for the characters.

Mise en scene is also used where we see the remaining people in the library all dressed up to the maximum with coats , paper from books down their tops the director uses this to show the audience that this storm or ice age is horrific and a worldwide wipe out also to show that this is age is very cold because they are indoors and rapped up alot and still they are putting paper down their tops to keep warm so he uses this to make this to show the audience the drastic effects of an ice age and to show that it is really big and horrific.

Mise en scene is also used when we see the remaining people in the library are all looking down and not talking that much the director uses this element of body language to show that the characters don't have that much belief of them surviving as the ice age is going to lat for days if not weeks and they are running out of supplies to burn and food to meat this makes the audience feel sympathetic and sad for the characters as we've seen them live there normal lives and seen there family and what there family are thinking so we feel sad for them as we don't think they re going to survive .
