analysis of micro features Gladiator

Gladiator
In gladiator ive chosen scene 18.
At the beggining of the scene maximus recieves a bowl of soup but as people want him killed his fellow gladiator nods as if to tell him not to eat the soup as it could be poisoned so maximus's other fellow gladiator takes a spoon full to test it the camera then zooms to his face as he pretends to choke after a few seconds he begins to laugh this shows that even though they are slaves and being used to fight they are trying to make most of their lives and having a laugh.

The camera then tracks a man who then goes and sits down next to some people who are seperated from the rest of the crowd with much better seats and have very nice and quite posh outfits on this could mean that they're high in society or even part of royalty.

The camera then cuts to some of the kings men on horses and karts throwing bread into the crowd, the crowd quickly all jump out of their seats and all battle to get some bread this could mean that the crowd who go to watch these gladiators fight could be quite poor as they are really battling to get some bread this shows that going to watch gladiators fight was quite a good day out as they would get free bread also cheer and see the gladiators.

You then see a low angle shot of Maximus on the stairs just about to go and fight a legend of the games and he has a high chance of dying this low shot could show or relate to the stairway to heaven as he has a high chance of dying and at the top it is light and at the bottom in the jail it is quite dark and gloomy.

When then see a close up shot of the kings wife this is used to show her facial expression as she has just been told that the king is going to kill Maximus within a month and we no that she loves Maximus so they have used a close up shot to show the audience that she is scared and worried about him dying.

We then see a high shot of a underground cell open and out comes a tiger as if it was like the devil has risen from hell they have used this because satin likes bad things so these tigers have come up and tried to disturb or if not try to kill the gladiators and that is something that satin would try to do so Ridley Scott has tried to relate these tigers to satin the devil.

Then we see an extreme close up of the chains that are holding the tigers and the chains are looking as if they're breaking he has used this shot to make the audience feel more tense for the gladiators because if these tigers get loose they're going to cause more problems.
