The Core

1)How is the fact that this is a disaster film foreshadowed in the opening of the film.
Answer: We know it could be a disaster film because at the beginning of the film the camera moves deep into
the mountain and keeps dropping down like its going into the core of the earth and then the title explodes onto the screen this could foreshadow of whats to come.

2)List the 8 main characters.
Answer: Joshua Keyes, Sierge, rebecca Childs, Theodore Finch, Bob Iverson, General Thomas Purcell, Conrad Zimsky, Dr Ed Brazzleton.

The Day After Tommorow

In The Day After Tomorrow mise en scene is a key feature it is used throughout the film in one part when we see the Hollywood sign and then we see a windy tornado destroy and crush it they use this effect because we know the Hollywood sign is very big and a iconic landmark in America so they use this effect to show that the tornado is quick, massive and destructive this makes the audience feel scared and worried for the characters.

Mise en scene is also used when the three boys go onto the abandoned and crashed ship when they get onto the ship it is very dark and there is not much noise they use this to create suspense and tension this makes the audience think what is on the ship is there something dangerous also when the audience cant see much as the lighting is dim so the audience concentrate more on the sound feature so the audience themselves are on the edge and feeling tense.

The sound feature is also used when everyone is in the library and a loud noise which almost sounds like a whale is heard but we as the audience can not yet see the thing that has made this magnificent loud noise the director has used this to make the audience feel concerned and worried for the characters as we know this is a really bad time for humanity so we are not sure what could be making this noise as very bad things are happening so something worse could happen so us as the audience are concerned and feel sympathetic for the characters.

Mise en scene is also used where we see the remaining people in the library all dressed up to the maximum with coats , paper from books down their tops the director uses this to show the audience that this storm or ice age is horrific and a worldwide wipe out also to show that this is age is very cold because they are indoors and rapped up alot and still they are putting paper down their tops to keep warm so he uses this to make this to show the audience the drastic effects of an ice age and to show that it is really big and horrific.

Mise en scene is also used when we see the remaining people in the library are all looking down and not talking that much the director uses this element of body language to show that the characters don't have that much belief of them surviving as the ice age is going to lat for days if not weeks and they are running out of supplies to burn and food to meat this makes the audience feel sympathetic and sad for the characters as we've seen them live there normal lives and seen there family and what there family are thinking so we feel sad for them as we don't think they re going to survive .

analysis of micro features Gladiator

Gladiator
In gladiator ive chosen scene 18.
At the beggining of the scene maximus recieves a bowl of soup but as people want him killed his fellow gladiator nods as if to tell him not to eat the soup as it could be poisoned so maximus's other fellow gladiator takes a spoon full to test it the camera then zooms to his face as he pretends to choke after a few seconds he begins to laugh this shows that even though they are slaves and being used to fight they are trying to make most of their lives and having a laugh.

The camera then tracks a man who then goes and sits down next to some people who are seperated from the rest of the crowd with much better seats and have very nice and quite posh outfits on this could mean that they're high in society or even part of royalty.

The camera then cuts to some of the kings men on horses and karts throwing bread into the crowd, the crowd quickly all jump out of their seats and all battle to get some bread this could mean that the crowd who go to watch these gladiators fight could be quite poor as they are really battling to get some bread this shows that going to watch gladiators fight was quite a good day out as they would get free bread also cheer and see the gladiators.

You then see a low angle shot of Maximus on the stairs just about to go and fight a legend of the games and he has a high chance of dying this low shot could show or relate to the stairway to heaven as he has a high chance of dying and at the top it is light and at the bottom in the jail it is quite dark and gloomy.

When then see a close up shot of the kings wife this is used to show her facial expression as she has just been told that the king is going to kill Maximus within a month and we no that she loves Maximus so they have used a close up shot to show the audience that she is scared and worried about him dying.

We then see a high shot of a underground cell open and out comes a tiger as if it was like the devil has risen from hell they have used this because satin likes bad things so these tigers have come up and tried to disturb or if not try to kill the gladiators and that is something that satin would try to do so Ridley Scott has tried to relate these tigers to satin the devil.

Then we see an extreme close up of the chains that are holding the tigers and the chains are looking as if they're breaking he has used this shot to make the audience feel more tense for the gladiators because if these tigers get loose they're going to cause more problems.

halloween:production

HALLOWEEN (1978)

The film is set in the fictional midwestern town of Haddonfield, Illinois. On halloween, six year old michael myers murders his older sister. Fifteen years later, he escapes from a psychiatric hospital, returns home, and stalks teenager Laurie Strode and her friends. Michael's psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis suspects Michael's intentions, and follows him to Haddonfield to try to prevent this from happening.

The reason i like this film is because it is one of the scariest films ive seen even 40 years on its still scary also the way it builds suspense and tension is really good and the use of music to build tension is amazing

Halloween (1978) was a smash hit on release and helped give birth to the slasher film genre. Originally an idea suggested by producer Irwin Yablans (entitled The Babysitter Murders), who envisioned a film about babysitters being menaced by a stalker, Carpenter took the idea and another suggestion from Yablans that it take place during Halloween and developed a story. Carpenter said of the basic concept: "Halloween night. It has never been the theme in a film. My idea was to do an old haunted house movie,."

The director of halloween is John Carpenter  he has written loads of films such as big trouble in little china , precinct 13 , Christine , The Fog and also did the brilliant remake of The Thing.
Carpenter was born in Carthage, New York, the son of Milton Jean (née Carter) and Howard Ralph Carpenter, a music professor. He and his family moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1953. He was captivated by movies from an early age, particularly the westerns of Howard Hawks and John Ford, as well as 1950s low budget horror and science fiction films, such as Forbidden Planet and The Thing from Another World and began filming horror shorts on 8 mm film even before entering high school. He attended Western Kentucky University where his father chaired the music department, then transferred to the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts in 1968 and graduated in 1971.

The Cast: Donald pleasence , jamie lee curtis ,Nancy kyes , Nick castle , Charles cyphers , P.J.soles

Halloween (1978) did not have a studio but was made on the streets and in real houses as the budget was low.

The budget of Halloween was $320,000 and the gross was $60,000,000

Halloween was filmed in 21 days in the spring of 1978 in South Pasadena, California and Sierra Madre, California (cemetery). An abandoned house owned by a church stood in as the Myers house. Two homes on Orange Grove Avenue (near Sunset Boulevard) in Hollywood were used for the film's climax. The crew had difficulty finding pumpkins in the spring, and artificial fall leaves had to be reused for multiple scenes. Local families dressed their children in Halloween costumes for trick-or-treat scenes.

A thing that caught my eye when watching Halloween was at the end when the closing credits came up and i noticed while looking for the name for michael myers they refered to michael myers as the THE SHAPE

Also a thing that caught my eye was the simply brilliant soundtrack by John carpenter who is a brilliant director and creator of music.
